The son of a miner and the youngest of four brothers, I was born in Belper, Derbyshire and currently am based in South Normanton a small village on the Derbyshire border. My interests have always entered around Art, Photography and outdoor pursuits. I have worked in the timber industry for 36 years until I recently decided to try and fulfil a longstanding dream to pursue a career as an artist / printmaker.
My art is about what interests me, what I see both in my locality and travels. I have always been captivated by how different viewpoints can change the scenes we see. The way light and shadow alter a picture. I look at everyday scenes and try to extract an interesting viewpoint to show our there is beauty in all our surroundings.
Printmaking is a medium I like to work in and I use my photography and drawn images to work through an idea for a print. I am always learning and my work at present is predominantly in black and white. Once a subject takes hold of me I like to explore and expand all relevant viewpoints and possibilities associated with that image or idea and produce several pieces connected with that theme. I am on a journey of discovery and its only just beginning.
